News Tidbits…..

News tidbits…….

The “buffoon’s “ that they have announcing the races these days are almost funny, for example.. Sunday Darrell Waltrip kept trying to make tires an issue during the race especially when the Hendricks cars were all having tire problems, well I think Elliot Sadler said it best when he was asked yesterday at a test session at Rockingham’s “Little Rock” ½ mile track, he was asked about the tire issues at Sundays race at Atlanta. When asked what it meant that at least a dozen competitors faced tire trouble at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday, Sadler was quick with a response: “Yeah, but there were 37 others that didn’t,” and he had a very good point, but to hear DW tell it the tires were horrible. HORSEFEATHERS!

“When they come here and test, you expect them to build a tire that we can abuse and that we can race hard with,” said Jeff Gordon, one of those affected. “That obviously wasn’t the case. There is a good chance we were too aggressive, but until we go back and analyze everything it’s hard to say.” and he wasn’t alone, Ryan Newman also chimed in. “Goodyear’s got some work to do,” he said. “It’s a safety situation. We popped one. There are a lot of guys who popped one.” yeah 12 cars had issues, and Denny Hamlin hit something his was not a wear issue. Goodyear racing chief Stu Grant defended the quality of the tire. “It’s a tire the guys are happy to run on,” he said. “They’re comfortable and they’re fast if the setup is good. The leaders are running great. If you look at (Kasey Kahne) and (Busch), their tires have looked great all day.” And so did lots of other drivers tires. If you notice who was complaining, it was the Hendricks teams or those affiliated with HMS. So are they saying that because Hms cars had issues that it is a safety thing? Well poor little babies, they should of done their homework like the other teams did… find the right setup and you don’t have those issues. I understand that teams want to go fast and sometimes they push the limits to get there, but I mean the one team that had all the issues is the one team that has been so dominate for so many years. And they miss the setup at one race and suddenly it is Goodyear’s fault? NOT!

Like Chad Knaus said last year when asked why his team was so good…. HOMEWORK! Now get out there and do it!

Now if NASCAR really wanted to change something then they should throw that silly looking wing away! Period, get rid of it that is what caused the 12 car to get up in the air and flip, ( Carl may have had a little something to do with it …lol) But if they had had any brains at all they would of not put it there to start with, it was just another way for Brian France to make some coin out of the teams, by mandating that the teams buy the wings from NASCAR, at $2200.00 a pop I might add….. hummmm makes you wonder.

Well NASCAR has a week off and then they go to Bristol. Bring on the short tracks!

Black Flag for the 99……

Black flag for the 99

Boy what a finish to the race today! The thing everyone is talking about seems to be the move the 99 car made to take out the 12 of Kesalowski. And yeah it was a bonehead move to say the least, but did he mean for him to flip over? No I really don’t think he did, he just wanted to pay him back for the ordeal at the start of the race, which I felt wasn’t really anyone’s fault it was just racing. But on to the rest of the race……..

How about the Richard Petty Motorsports team today? 3 in the top 10! now that is great to see. Paul Menard even had a great run and stayed out of trouble, A.J. Almendinger give the “green” 43 car a great run staying up there at the front when he finally got up there. And Kahne finished 4th. Finally good to see the Fords run good.

RCR didn’t have a stellar day but Harvick finally got up in the top 10 with a 9th place run, Burton had brake issues which caused him to get a speeding penalty and he finally wound up in the 20th spot. Followed with a 23rd of the 33 car of Bowyer.

The surprises of the day I guess would be how good the 82 of Scott Speed ran he wound up 10 with the “Aussie” Marcos Ambrose a close 11th both of which were ahead of the 48!

The announcers need replacing no doubt! It is getting harder and harder to listen to the NASCAR “puppets” week after week, and who ever is in charge of the coverage needs to be fired! They were showing Jeff Gordon’s pit stops and he was 2 laps down! Stay on the racing boys! Now I understand that Jeff has fans but please……..Darrell Waltrip kept trying to say there were tire issue, well they might have been but look at who was affected……. Hendricks cars or teams affiliated with Hendricks. Yeah Hamlin and Kyle Busch had issues but nothing like the Hendricks teams did, and it was the same wear pattern on all of them inside edge of the tires. Hummm makes you wonder huh? But there wasn’t a thing wrong with the tires lots of other teams never had one single issue with them.

Roush finally had a really good run with Kennseth running second, and Biffle winding up 8th, and Edwards wound up 39th after being parked by NASCAR.

One thing I have noticed is NASCAR must of relaxed the rules without telling anyone, last week I saw it but figured it just got by them but this week I saw the 17 and the 24 and the 33 all pit with parts of the car hanging out in pit road. The way I understood the rules they had to have all 4 tires in the box, guess I was wrong……

We didn’t see any Start and park teams this week did we? Guess NASCAR got the message across…..

It was great to see Bill Elliott wind up 16th today he had that new FR-9 engine humming, he just got clobbered in the pits.

Well now the big thing is wait and see what kind of penalty NASCAR hands down to Edwards, that will be the news of the week. But I have to admit you could see his hands turn right as he got up next to the 12 car, and I guess the NASCAR officials actually was looking for once, since they give him the black hankie and called him to the big yellow truck. I would be willing to bet they park him for one race, or one hell of a fine. And you know probation is going to figure in the mix. We will just have to wait til Tuesday and see.

All and all I think it was a great race, and it would have been a lot better if we could of not had all the late yellows. But thats racing!

Random thoughts about Atlanta….

Just some random thoughts going into Atlanta……….

How is “golden boy” going to fair? He was not very strong looking but it was only practice…..

Good to see them honor Wendell Scott  he was a true pioneer in the sport.

Wild Bill Elliott is coming home to Georgia…… not much of a comeback as he was down in the speed charts but…. he is the only for FR-9 at the track… you know what it is, Ford paid the Wood Brothers to field the car so they could get more testing info…..this FR-9 is going to make lots of teams happy, and should have the Ford teams ready to race for a change…..Just once though I would like Bill run up front just one more time, not just during a caution but a run from the back and pass a ton of cars like he used to do so long ago….just one more time…….

Spoiler report……

NASCAR template guru Billy Berkheimer said, “If this works the way I expect it will, the down force numbers will the same with the spoiler and the wing.” Well lot’s of things don’t work the way they think they will…… the numbers may be the same wind tunnel wise, but the way the car reacts in traffic will be the key, and teams often team up for test dates so they can have more than one car on the track at a time…….

Goodyear is bringing the new tire to Atlanta for both series…… it will be the same left side as always but the right will be new, slightly different compound, but the new way they are making them has tons to do with it too….lefts are D-4384 and rights are D-8488 so we will see how the new construction holds up. The new style held up very good at Las Vegas last week.

There were at least 5 teams who brought a brand new chassis to the track this week, and one of them sat in the pole! Yep the 88 brought a new chassis so did the 24 of Jeff Gordon , the 1 of McMurray, the 33 of Bowyer and the 12 of Kesaloweski. The new car’s qualified, 1st, 5th, 42th,18th, and 28th respectively.so 2 of them found something…… hummmmm look at that , 2 of them are Hendricks cars………1st and 5th, Dale Jr. and Jeff Gordon.

A tip of the hat to Dale Jr who sits on the pole for Sundays race he finally found some speed with his amped ride…..

Well it is race day…….. hope the race is a good one…

More on the 48 team…..

After watching the race this past Sunday, I got to thinking, about Jimmie Johnson and what Kevin Harvick said about JJ having a golden horse shoe shoved up his….. well you know . So I have done some checking. I have scoured over his 9 year career and found the following facts.

He has run 294 races as of yesterday(Sunday)

He has had 49 wins, 23 poles, 119 top 5′s, 182 top 10′s.

He ran 3 races his first year 2001 and ranked 52nd. Since then he has not finished lower than 5th in a season. He has an avg. starting position of 10.9 and and avg. finishing of 11.7. He has never failed to qualify for a race. He has led 9800 of 84,512 laps.

And he has won over $90 million dollars.

These are things no one has ever done before….. NO ONE! Not even “the king” Richard Petty.

One thing I noticed is that in his first year he only ran 3 races and he was ranked 52nd, then when Hendricks decided to run the full season in 2002 in comes Chad Knaus…… since then Johnson has not finished lower than 5th in year end standings..

Now is this combo some sort of magic? Or is it just plain hard work? It seems to be a little of both in the past 9 years.

BUT………. the thing that cranks my tractor is that Hendricks has 4 teams and the only one that seems to be the dominate team is the 48, and Rick Hendricks himself says that “All teams share information” well do you really think that the 48 team is sharing with the 88? it sure don’t look that way, no granted that each driver has different styles of driving and one set up for driver “A” may not work for driver “B” but the basis for each setup is a good starting point and it seems that the 5 car and the 24 car are head and shoulders above the 88 team. Just like the 48 is so far above the rest of the Hendricks teams. If they are sharing why didn’t the other Hendricks cars run like the 48 did? Is Hendricks saying his other 4 drivers are not as good as Jimmie Johnson? Or are they just that much better? Why is that? Are they cheating? If so then NASCAR has not found it yet, yeah they have nailed the 48 car a few times but really have they been busted for something major? No they were like token infractions, something to take the heat off of NASCAR, so NASCAR could say “hey we are checking them” but are they?

Well when you look at what the 48 team has done over the past 9 years it sure seems like something is being done. One way or the other. SOMETHING has to change, the 48 team is stinking up the show, so far this year the 48 team has won 2 out of 3 races. And the fans are not happy, even fans of Jimmie are not happy. No one wants to see the same car run out a 3 or 4 seconds lead ever time a green flag is dropped. Like it was Sunday at Las Vegas for the most part it was the 24 car running out front every time the green dropped, then suddenly when the end of the race was just around the corner here comes the 48 car runs the 24 of Gordon down and the blows by him, and these 2 cars share a garage!

To put it in a nut shell, I am not sure they are cheating I have seen the “room of doom” inspections these cars go thru, so I really don’t see how they could be cheating, but I really don’t see how they are not. It really does have me confused and I don’t know what to think. But if this is a sign of things to come for the season then I will just stop watching ….. it is boring to see the same car win every week even if it is my favorite. The name of the game is racing not “let’s watch Jimmie make laps”.

Look back to the 80′s when “Wild Bill from Dawsonville” was smoking them on the super speedways NASCAR run in and hollered “this ain’t fair for one car to rule the roost so we are changing the rules” and they did. They handicapped the Fords and gave the GM cars concessions. Did it make for better racing? Yeah it did and it evened the field I hated it since I am a die hard Ford fan but it did make for better racing.

Now let’s see what NASCAR does….. but don’t hold your breath waiting for a rules change.

48 wins again…….

48 wins again……

It should come as no surprise that another Hendricks car shows up in victory lane today. I know lots of my friends who are Gordon fans will disagree but on lap 88 when the yellow lights malfunctioned again the 24 car comes screaming into the pits and over shoots the pit box, the crew shoves the fuel can in and the catch can man had his can in then the official says “ nope, your over the line” and they back him up, and he is not penalized. .. go figure…

18 drivers break the track record in qualifying. Showing it was going to be a very fast race. The 48 had issues early but through the wonders of NASCAR he recovered and went on to win.

The 20 of lagano had a good showing this kid is doing a really good job this year showing he may actually have some skills.

The 24 leads almost every lap during the race showing again that the HMS cars were very strong AGAIN….

but what impressed me was the showing of the 9 car,(yeah I like Kahne ) he started 20th and was running at the back til the first round of pit stops and he kept getting better, and would have had a top 5 finish until NASCAR caught him running over a air line and pushed him back 5 spots.

The yellow lights seemed to have a mind of their own today coming on twice during the race which could of caused major problems NASCAR should really look into this …..

Kyle Busch showed that he is starting to mature some by saying he was sorry to his crew for his speeding into the pits and getting caught. That impressed me.

But the yellow on lap 228 kept the Hendricks cars from lapping the entire field… yeah them cars are 100% legal.. they flat stunk up the show.

The last 30 laps the Hendricks cars were stretching out a lead at a rate of 5 and 6 tenth’s a lap, that just ain’t right I don’t care who it is.

The coverage of the race was some of the most biased I have seen in a long time, Fox must be on Hendricks payroll! Every lap it was Hendricks this Hendricks that….. it gets old. It is bad enough that we have to watch “Vanilla Boy” Jimmie march to the front with the golden horseshoe shoved up his ass like Harivck said but to have to listen to them talk about them constantly gets old. But there is always next week….

a tip of the hat to the RPM team of Kahne for the strong top 10 finish!

Jake “Suitcase” Elders passes away

Jake “Suitcase “ Elder has passed away at age 73…..

It is a sad day in NASCAR as one of the truly great crew chief’s has gone. His health has been failing since his stroke  in 2006 but this man was one of the true pioneers of the sport. He took dale Earnhardt Sr. to his rookie of the year title in 79. Elder was liked by almost everyone, he had the knack to make cars work… he wasn’t one to seek out media exposure. Instead of going to the press box with his winning driver and car owner, he would be in the garage thinking about the next race on the calendar. Jake was king of chassis set-up, not prince of publicity. He built top- flight race cars, and tutored his young drivers. His dynamics surfaced on the race track. Elder, who was given his nickname by Waltrip, did not have a formal education, and never intended to make racing his career. By chance, he was a good welder who was sought-out in the mid-1950s by a local racer at Hickory, NC, and his future path became defined.

According to Roush, “Suitcase Jake” had one tape measure for short tracks, and one for long tracks. And Roush — who has a masters degree in scientific mathematics — swears the man could chase demons (real or imagined) from race cars.”And his tape measure, on the sides that didn’t have the numbers and the lines, he would put his felt-tip marker marks,” explains Roush. “And those would be things that he would use to check various places on the car for critical dimensions, that he’d worked out to be correct.”

“If you had a demon, if your team was beset by bad luck, he would bring his little bag of templates and stuff to check out a car with,” says Roush. “And he would go in and the guys would get out of his way, and he would make his adjustments, and when he was done, if there was a demon in there, he’d have it chased off. “ says Roush.

Elder starting working for Petty Enterprises  in 1960s as a fabricator.  Richard Petty  said that Elder didn’t engineer the cars, it was all off the cuff Petty said:

He’d put something on the car and say, ‘OK, now it’s right. Here, you go drive it. And don’t come back in complaining to me, because I got the car fixed. You go learn how to drive it.’ Elder was certainly a leader. He might not always be right, but he was never wrong. One thing about Jake — he was always the same. When you saw him coming, you knew what you were going to get. He was good enough and forceful enough that when he said he’d fixed something, they had confidence in the car and could go out and get something done.

Elder was the crew chief for  David Pearson  championship winning car for   Holman-Moody  in 1968 and 1969. Elder worked for   Darrell Waltrip when he was a young driver in the mid 1970s. Stories circulate that Elder grabbed Waltrip by his driver’s suit to tell him how to race the car. Edler was hired by  Rod Osterland in 1979 to work with rookie  Dale Earnhardt . Earnhardt won the rookie of the year award that season. After Earnhardt won his first race, Elder said to him “Stick with me, kid, and we’ll win diamonds as big as horse turds” Elder left the team in May 1980 which was Earnhardt’s first championship season. Elder later worked for Yates Racing  until he was fired in 1991 and replaced by  Larry Macreynolds . He served as crew chief for many additional seasons for different teams before he retired.

One day at North Wilksboro Speedway , Elder was disappointed with his perception that other teams were illegally soaking their tires to gain additional speed. So he applied a gallon of rubber softener to his team’s qualifying tires in plain view of the other teams and NASCAR officials to protest what he deemed the other teams were doing secretly then he put them on the car, then when every one raced to tell officials he switched them ….

Jake “Suitcase” Elder was all business about the business of winning race cars. He didn’t allow time for BS, and those who did would quickly find themselves clashing with him. Jake was all about old school. He was as much a winner as his cars, and will be sorely missed.

I hope the rule book in heaven is a foot thick… it will give Jake a real challenge! Race on “Suitcase” we will see you someday at the race tracks in heaven…

More on the 66 team….

More on the 66 Team….

after looking at this subject more and more, I have a real issue with the way NASCAR has handled this. I mean NASCAR says that because the 66 car driven by Dave Blaney, qualified 5th and even led 3 laps before retiring to the pits, that they think something may be up. Well it may be, like the team worked hard, got a good driver who could drive and they done good. But if you read between the lines it seems like NASCAR thinks the team may not be on the up and up… WOW really? What about some of the other teams who may not be on the up and up? Like the 48 car? To me a car that is always up front week in and week out, regardless of the track are the ones that should be looked at. Especially one that has been caught cheating before, like the 48 car. All the HMS teams share information “so they say” but you don’t see the other 3 Hendricks teams up front every week do you? Nope you don’t, and the ordeal with the 48 beating the 31 car out of the pits last week leaves a little to make you think, I have rewound the tape and Fox never showed the light or when the caution actually came out with regards to when the 48 car pitted, now NASCAR and the 48 team say they were in the pit stall before the yellow came out, it was never proven, and Fox likes to go back and show things that seem to be in question, but for some reason they over looked this one. if the 48 team got a lucky break every now and then, it would be one thing, but it seems that every week they are on the receiving end of some kind of break, and never on the bad end, always the good end. To some it may not be such a big deal, but apparently it was to some since that seemed to be one of the most popular questions on the post race interview…..makes you wonder….

Now far be it for me to judge how NASCAR does things but it does make one wonder…….

Off of the NASCAR topic for a second, in the coming weeks I am going to be highlighting some of our local drivers who will be running at the newly revamped North Georgia Speedway (http://www.northgaspeedway.net/) also some who will be running at the dirt track just north of us, Boyd’s Speedway (http://www.boydsspeedway.com/) letting everyone see just what kind of drivers we got here in the hills of North West Georgia. Look for these to start in the next week or so, and I hope to get better at posting the pictures……

RCR has Woken up!!!!

RCR has woken up!

The race at Fontana showed a very surprising item, the RCR cars were very fast! Harvick and Bowyer and Burton were all very strong through out the entire race. Giving Jimmie Johnson all he wanted at times. Could this be the team that knocks the HMS teams down a notch or two? Time will tell but they were sure strong in the race yesterday. With as 2nd 3rd and 8th. All 3 lead at one time or another.

A tip of the hat to the 20 team on his strong run to 5th place, goes to show that being at the right place at the right time can pay off. And a tip of the hat to the 82 car of Scott Speed on his 11th place run.

3 of the top runners were plagued by engine woes, Newman, grenaded one, JPM blew one, after he had lead early and seemed to be ready to run off and leave everyone. It seemed that the high RPM’s seemed to take an effect on the cars that were running the high line, Martin Truex blew also and he spent most of the day way up there “high wide and handsome”.

One thing that really surprised a lot of folks was the fact that NASCAR confiscated both cars out of Prism Motorsports, the 66 of Dave Blaney had a super strong run starting 5th and running at the head of the pack for 3 laps. When Blaney headed for the pits on lap 43 NASCAR was there, waiting. Three laps earlier, #55-Michael McDowell drove the other Prism Motorsports car to the garage. The final race report concluded that both cars had engine failures. So why did the sanctioning body confiscate the #66 car? “Because they can,” said Bill Henderson, crew chief of the #66 team and general manager for Prism Motorsports.
Henderson, who has just two cars for the team, was told the car will not be returned until next Saturday long after qualifying is over. However, the primary car has the basics of racing swaybar, shocks and springs that the team simply can’t afford to duplicate on the backup car. Without those necessities, Henderson will not be able to race. Sprint Cup Series director John Darby said he hopes to perform the inspection at Las Vegas in order to return the car to the team in a timely fashion, but that’s hardly a guarantee. The bad thing about this is NASCAR says they want to crack down on “start and park teams” but this team only has 2 cars, they got one car in the 500 a week ago and ran almost the entire race till a broken driveshaft caused them to drop out. It seems that NASCAR only picks on the teams who are just trying to get started, and making as many races as they can. It would be different if this team had been doing this for a few weeks but the second race of the year? But you never see them jumping on the heavily sponsored teams. Hummm I wonder why? The Prism team may not be able to make the race at Las Vegas due to NASCAR having the car, and NASCAR says that they will try to get the car back to them…. yeah right.

You can see in th e photo above that the cars were all running different lines around this track. And a special thanks to one of my loyal readers Shyn loco for the photos he wa s lucky enough to attend this race hope he didn’t get wet!

The RPM team continued its horrible performance this year Kahne spun while running 8th he was very strong but could not find the handle on the car. None of the other 3 had a very good day either.

All in all it is on to Las Vegas and we will see how things shake out there, will RCR continue to hound HMS? Will RPM finally get the whole Ford package worked out and get a good finish? I guess we will have to wait and see when we get to Las Vegas….

Busch Wins At Fontana!

Busch wins at Fontana!

The Nationwide race at Fontana was for the most part boring except for the finish. Now that was some decent racing, with 4 cars headed for the checkered flag so close you could of thrown a blanket over them.

With a yellow for the 62 of Brandon Gaughan’s spin it set up a green, white , checkered, and it was the Gibbs teammates who had dominated the entire race, kind of stinking up the whole show. I am not a fan of a driver or team leading the entire race then winning by suck a big margin, I want to see them race to the finish. Well on the restart Lagano made a rookie mistake and spun his tires and gave Biffle the run getting into turn one, when the 27 car of Biffle drove down under the 20 of Lagano getting into one the 20 car tried to cut down on him to block and Biffle but a bumper to him getting him loose and sending him up the track, giving the lead to the 27 Ford of Biffle with the 18 of Busch in hot pursuit. Now some will say that Biffle used his bumper to take the lead, and that Lagano got the short end of the stick, well if Lagano was sooooooo fast like he had been all day then Biffle would of never been able to catch him. Lagano spun the tires on the restart giving Biffle the run. Now the deal with the 22 car of Kesolowski and Lagano…. I will leave that one up to you, did Kes turn him? Yeah but why? I guess we will never know but if Lagano was so fast why did the other cars suddenly catch him? Because he spun his tires on the restart, (read that rookie mistake) and let them catch him.

Earlier in the weekend Kyle Busch blasted the media for the coverage they were giving Danica Patrick, almost every lap, the coverage should be on the un-funded teams who really make up the sport. And to a point I agree with him, yeah the networks should be covering the whole field not just one or two drivers but it has been this way forever. One thing that remains a fact, Danica has improved the ratings for the Nationwide series by tons! She is good for the sport. And it is exciting to watch as she grows as a stock car driver, it shows everyone how hard it is to get out there and drive one of these cars. It has been fun for me watching her grow as a driver and how she has dealt with the learning experience of these cars. I for one think she is doing a fine job!

In the race today there will be no FR-9 motors in any of the Fords, they will be running the old stand by motor. So we will see how this shakes out. Good luck to all the drivers and hope we have a safe race.

Local Racing Heats up!

Local Racing heats up!!!

Well with NASCAR taking center stage with the Daytona 500 the past few weeks local racing has been somewhat over looked. Well I am here to fix that! I have lots of good news, I mean REALLY good news if you live in the Tri-State area of Ga.Tenn. And Ala. North Georgia Speedway has been taken over by a new promoter!!! Timmy Millwood who used to run Sugar Creek over by Blue Ridge has taken over the reins of our little 1/3rd mile speed haven. And I am looking for really good things from him. But first a little history on what has been happening over there, season before last the folks who were promoting the track just stepped out and the promoter from Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland Tn., Monte Morrow took over, our little track. Now these 2 track have always run on the same night, so you had one crowd that loves Cleveland and the others who love NGS. And if it rained at one the crowd from that track would rush to find out if the other was still running, it was a friendly rivalry. Well when Monte took over NGS things were not to bad we were all just glad to have a track to call our own, then came the move to Friday nights, this stunk to high heaven since NGS has always been a Saturday night track. Then the track started canceling races at NGS and moving them to Cleveland that went over like a lead … well you know what I mean. By now everyone was starting to see the writing on the wall, all Monte wanted was to destroy NGS and try and get everyone to come up to his track. When it was let out that he would NOT be back this year he went so far as to use the NGS website to direct people to HIS track, you could log onto the old NGS site and you were suddenly at Cleveland’s site, this got lots of folks ticked off, but underhanded people do underhanded things….. enough Of the bad, now on with the new!!!

North Ga. Speedway has a new website http://northgaspeedway.net/index.html

complete with a forum! All you have to do is register and log on! This is just one of the great things to come, the PA system has been in need of repair for a long time along with the lights, it has gotten pretty bad in the past few years, but … Mr Millwood has come to our rescue with New lights, and a new PA system! This year is going to be fun! I know a bunch pf drivers are looking at pulling the old race car out of the barn to come run NGS again!

First practice is March 20th and first race is the following weekend on the 27th. In case you can’t tell I am really stoked about this and hope if your in our little corner of the world you will stop by and check it out. Contact me and I will make sure your visit is a good one!

Now on to some other new things around the world of dirt racing…..

There is a new dirt racing forum on the internet, well maybe not real new but to me it is and what a great find! It is “One Dirt Forums” located at…

http://www.onedirt.com/forum/

While this forum is geared toward dirt racing it has a little bit of everything for every body. Lots of great tech articles and good reading, a place for posting pictures and video’s and a couple “rooms” for just shooting the breeze. Great site and well run . Look for post there from the dr.

Now a little NASCAR news…

Matt Kennseth has a new crew chief, seems Blickensderfer is out and Brad Parrott is in, and he has a proven history of getting a driver and car to the winners circle , he took Dale Jarrett to the championship when he was with Robert Yates. Lots of rumors are flying around about why this move took place when it did, but I will only say this, why would YOU replace a crew chief after the first race of the season? ……

The pothole seems to begetting a lot of reactions from the fair-weather fans too, seems they have found out the track at Daytona has not been repaved since 78 an they are screaming to repave it! That is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater! Look at the 500 this year, other than the delay it was one of the best in years. So why repave ? No reason just patch the hole and get ready for July! By the way the patch they used at first is the same patch they used last year at Martinsvillle, it is a two part epoxy that dries clear, and it worked great there, but with all the rain they have had at Daytona this year it never would cure correctly and it caused more problems so the track officials went and found them some “Bondo” and used almost 3 -5 gallon buckets to patch the track, and it worked great, wow another use for “Bondo”!!

Well it is almost time for Fontana and I hope to have a blog up after qualifying and one after the race.

CYA@THERACES!

The dr.
