What a night of racin at North Georgia Speedway!
The night started with the huge field of Mod Hobby cars taking the green with heat winners Larry Higgins and Jordan Rodabaugh (who was moved up to winner in the heat when heat winner Mike Sands was found 30 lbs light) But it was a Larry Higgins show as he lead almost ever lap on his way to another win this year, Jordan Rodabaugh gave him a good run for second and Tim ford brought home 3rd showing he was finally getting the new 3rd link car figured out followed by “Mr. Smooth “ Delbert Haynes for 4th. Great racing in a class that was 22 cars strong,
The Crate’s rolled off their feature with Jeff Smith and Craig Borrows bringing the field to the green but it was all Jeff Smith as he lead wire to wire , even after losing his power steering on the 3rd lap, Borrows gave him all he wanted as he ran a very strong second, followed by Keny Kizzar and Craig Reese in the 74 car.
Limited was a barn burner ppure and simple, with James Gamble and Brian Burke putting a show on, you could of thrown a blanket over the 2 leaders as they battled lap after lap giving the fans their money’s worth, at the checkered it was Gamble, Brian Burke, Spencer Singleton, and Shanon Bearden, I want to make a note here that Bearden was caught up in a crash midway thru the race and came to the pits and his crew removed almost the entire left side of his car, that was damaged in the altercation, but it didn’t slow him down a bit as he charged back to 5th, and I also want to give a tip of the hat to the 07 of Heather Taylor who in only her first year in limited showed the boys she was going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future as she is showing great progress in the 07 car, she finished on the lead lap. I was talking to Heather when Brian Burke walked up to shake her hand and asked her “ I didn’t scare yo to bad whn I went by you in the heat did I?” (refering to Burke’s pass down the front straight where he came from 5th to blow by everyone to take the lead ) Heather smiled and shook Brians hand and responded “ Yeah but I was scared to death when every car passed me”. Way to go Heather your starting to gain the respect of the fellow drivers little by little.
In the Supers it was David “The coach” Payne and Ronnie “The Chattanooga Flash “ Johnson on the front row and at first it looked like The Coach had them covered, as him and The X Man Shaun Chastain put on a clinic of how to get around NGS blistering the track with lap after lap times in the very low 13 second range. But The Chattanooga Flash got his high line cleaned off and here he came “High Wide and Handsome” running the leaders down, Payne tried to move up the track and take away The Flash’s advantage but Johnson moved to the bottom and drove off taking the lead and the win, followed to the line by David Payne, Shane Clanton, and Shaun Chastian.
Awesome night of racing at NGS with lots of action and good racing on a super fast track, “shore nuff “ great racing at the “Fastest 1/3 mile track in the south”
