When you put $1000.00 up to win a Crate race, your gonna draw all the heavy hitters! And that is what North Georgia Speedway done last night!.

With National Title Pawn bringing out the big inflatables and face painting for the kids everyone was sure to have a great time.

NGS had the in great shape for some super fast racing. After a few rounds of hot laps it was plain that the track was going to be great.

The first race of the evening was the limited heat to set up the inside row for the nights feature and Shannon Bearden showed that he was going to be a force to be reckoned with as he put his #32 race car out front and took the first heat win. Followed to the line by Jamie Lunsford. The second heat was won by Devon Dilbeck as he beat Brian Jackson and Todd Hernandez to the line.

The supers qualified next and with a 13.68 local hot shoe Johnny Cloer Jr was showing he was gonna be fast too.

Then it was the returning class of Econo hobby’s feature with Jacob Stuart and Donnie Patterson on the front row, when the green it wasn’t long til a yellow flew with a wreck in turn 2 taking out 3 cars putting the Defending track Champion Glenn Grimsley on point, Grimsley who started shotgun on the field lead the remaining field of cars into turn one with the 7 of Justin Thomas in hot pursuit, Thomas managed to run the 64 of Grimsley down, Thomas pass the 64 of Grimsley for the lead and never looked back, at the line it was the 7 of Justin Thomas taking his second win of the year, followed by the 28 of Donnie Patterson and the 64 of Glenn Grimsley.

The Mod hobby’s rolled out next, with the 34 of Greg Sudderth taking the early lead but at the line it was Jr. Whitner taking the win followed by the 11 of Mark Bishop, the 11 of Delbert Haynes and the 12 of Chapman.

The Crates were next with the National Title Pawn 30 lap $1000.00 to win feature, with a very fast field going to the green it was the 23 of Craig Burrows taking the early lead, with the 29 of Jason Welshan and the 17S of Jeff Smith on his heels. But a caution on lap 4 changed things as on the restart it was the 17S of TEAM17’s Jeff Smith taking the lead and never looking back, the 29 of Welshan looked at times like he was going to be able to run Smith down but he could just not quite get there and at the line it was the 17S of Jeff Smith taking the win and showing all the crates that NGS is “his” house. Behind Smith it was Jason Welshan, Craig Burrows, Kenny Kazzar and Aaron Wheat rounding out the top 5.

Jeff Smith and Kelly Young

The limited late models rolled out next for their feature, but it was a race for 2nd as Blue Ridge Ga’s Shannon Bearden took the lead and never looked back. Bearden who had just got back from a month in Fla, showed that he hadn’t lost a step in his win, at the checkered flag it was 32 of Shannon Bearden, the 11 of Lee Gray, the 71 of Spencer Singleton, T6 of Todd Hernandez, and the B4 of Brian Jackson.

The supers took the track next with pole sitter Johnny Cloer leading the field to the green and from then on it was the Johnny Cloer show, as the local driver lead wire to wire never looking back. Derek Ellis who had to go to a back up car came from the back to run second but he couldn’t catch the 41 car of Cloer, Cloer took the field to school as he stretched his lead lap after lap, at the line he had almost a half lap lead over second place. Cloer served notice that he knows how to win at he top level and I look for him to be a force to be reckoned with the rest of the year.

Johnny Cloer Jr and his father Johnny Cloer Sr.

Ralph Langston won Stock Pony and Billy Callahan took Mod pony over Grady Stokes.

All in all it was a great night of racing on a super track with lots of fans getting a awesome night of racing.

Now get ready for the Ray Cook Southern Nationals this coming Thursday details coming soon.
