The evenings events started off with a drivers autograph session on the grass in front of the grandstands. With the drivers and fans getting a chance to get up close and personal. With almost all of the drivers “parkin on the grass” it was a great time for the kids who got to sit in the cars, crawl all over them and meet the drivers and even get pictures taken with each of their favorite drivers.

Lots of the classes had some very close battles for the points title, and some of the points leaders chose to sit out heat races and start at the tail end of the feature. Since heats don’t pay points, only to set up the features starting position.

With a huge car count in all classes the heats ran pretty smoothly giving the fans a show!

The first feature of the night was the Econo Hobby, with points leader and defending champion Glenn “Double G” Grimsley

Econo Chapm Glenn Grimsley

starting shotgun on the field. It was a pair of Camaro’s starting on the front row with the T39 of Tim Totherow and the 4 of Kevin Brown leading them to the green. As the battle begin the T39 seemed to have mechanical problems and fell back the 4 of Brown took the lead and was looking strong until the 39 of Tim Millwood got into him getting into turn one sending the 4 of Brown to the pits for repairs, but on the restart it was another Camaro of Cory Sanders

taking the lead and never looking back, but the racing wasn’t over as the 64 of Grimsley came from 12th up to 3rd in 11 laps and looked to be charging for the front until slower cars caused a caution and Grimsley was caught up in the melee ending his night but handing him the points title for Econo hobby for 2011, at the line it was cory Sanders , Millwood, Richards, and Joe Dockery, who moved up one spot to finish 3rd in points behind champion Grimsley and 2nd place Donnie Patterson. Kevin Brown rounded out the top 4 in points.

Mod hobby saw another points leader Delbert Haynes

Mod Hobby Champ Delbert Haynes

elect to start at the rear of the feature, Haynes had a 7 point lead over hard charging Mark Bishop who was driving a brand new car for Blackwell Racing, Mechanical issues sidelined the new 31 car and Mark took over the seat of the 22 car of Chris Blackwell to make his run a the points. But it was the 20 of Larry Higgins and the 1 car of Jr Whitner running away with the race, followed to the line by Bishop and Haynes for the top 4. giving Delbert Haynes another points title in Mod Hobby, with Bishop 2nd and Larry Higgins 3rd and Derek Chapman rounding out the top 4 in points.

Next up for the evening was the Crate’s with a guest flagman on the flagstand, Darryl Rackley and his son waving the green

Grand tour Winner Darryl Rackley and his son.

, Mr Rackley won the “Grand Tour “ of the pits earlier in the evening and part of his prize was to wave the green on the feature of his choice, and he chose the crates. Jeff Smith continued his dominance of NGS’s 3rdmile clay oval as he took another win with the TEAM17 #17S the racing behind him was hot and fast with Aaron Wheat chasing Smith , and a battle with the 74 of Craig Reese and the 99 of Derek Ellis giving the fans a super show! But at the line is was Smith, Wheat, Reese and Ellis. The win just added to the points Jeff Smith

Crate Champ Jeff Smith

has built up this season giving him a points title with the 7 of Grayson York taking 2nd and Colby Kilgore on leave from the Marines in the 44 bumped his dad out of 3rd in points and moved Aaron Wheat into 3rd with Doug Kilgore rounding out the top 4 in points for Crates.

The big $1000.0 to win limited race was next and it was a battle with Jake Knowles and Shannon Bearden going at it hard and heavy all race long but at the checkered it was Knowles taking the win, and surviving a protest and was found legal 2nd was Bearden, 3rd Aaron Wilson who should of gotten a hard charger award coming from 12th starting spot to finish 3rdand Todd Hernandez rounded out the top 3, in points it was the T6 of Todd Hernandez

Limited Points Champ Todd Hernandez

getting his first points title at NGS with Spencer Singleton who wasn’t even there getting 2nd, and Shannon Bearden 3rd and Brian Jackson 4th.

Stock pony was a 1 point battle between Defending points champ Ralph Langston, and Lamar Cook, and when the green dropped it was the 4 of Grady Stokes taking the lead with the X41 of Cook in hot pursuit, the 25 of Jeremy Milsap then the 14 of Langston, Langston needed to get around the 25 of Milsap to tie the points but with just a few laps on the board Cook sheared the studs off the right rear sending his rear tire into the wall as the car rolled to a stop along with Cooks chances at a points title. No one was Catching Stokes in the 4 car though and at the line it was Stokes, Milsap, Lanston, and Robert Knight, giving Langston the points title for 2011 in stock pony.

In Mod Pony it was Billy Callahan taking the early lead and never looking back as he raced to the race win, and the points title, a very strong running Adam James chased Callahan to the checkered flag followed by Caleb Howard and Natasha Stokes , in the points it was Callahan, Natasha Stokes, Adam James and Caleb Howard rounding out the top 4 in points.

All in all it was an awesome night of racing, and Oct.15 we do it all over again with a FULL racing program including Supers, and the points awards will be made that night.

There is also going to be a “Fan give Away too details on that in the next few days….

I hope you were there to see this awesome night of racing, but if not, make your plans now to be there Oct 15!!
